  • Potter's Wax Museum
  •         The storefront looks a little dated and the attraction is a little hokey, but still fun if you've never been. Potter's was America's first wax museum and celebrated 50 years in 1999. Today they have over 170 wax figures of movie stars, historical figures and royalty. Here is the world's only working wax studio on display where you can watch the wax artists carve up their next client. Don't miss the Chamber of Horrors for some extra thrills. There's also a movie theater presentation and museum shop to round out your visit.
  • Spanish Quarter Museum
  •         Behind the doors to the Spanish Quarter Village, life is unchanged. It's a total reenactment community where Senora Gallegos visits with you as she cooks the evening meal over a charcoal fire. The woodworker shape handles and make daily repairs while the town's blacksmith is busy making nails and wrought iron for area homes and businesses. Others tend to gardens and go about their daily life. It's a great way to show the kids what life was like before Nintendo and automobiles.
  • St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum
  •         Florida's oldest lighthouse, located in St. Augustine, rises 165 feet and was built in 1875 along with the brick light keeper's house. Still working is the original, First Order, Fresnel Lens. The Tower's beam is visible 19 miles out to sea. Visitors can climb the 219 steps for a breathtaking view of St. Augustine and the surrounding vistas. Kids need to be at least seven years old and four feet tall to participate. Tiny tykes can enjoy wandering the grounds. A great park across the street has picnic appeal, and gnarled trees are low to the ground for climbing fun.

  • The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum
  •         An ever-changing display of original manuscripts await history and trivia buffs at the Karpeles. One of seven manuscript libraries in the United States, the collection is housed in a former church in downtown Jacksonville. Manuscripts change routinely and may include drafts of famous documents such as the Final Indian Peace Treaty or the Bridal Chorus"" better known as ""Here comes the Bride"" from Wagner. It's an interesting look at history and how drafts became part of our legacy. Ask about their cultural literacy programs and the mini-museums for schools."
